Bri, tell us about the main focus of the Weekend Warriors Blog…
When we first put out the idea of starting a blog, it was mainly for everyone to get to know mine and Desi’s personalities…what we like or don’t like in fashion, music, or even in real life situations. We found that with having a clothing line, it’s easier for the public to relate to you when they see you go through all the same exact stuff they do, especially with women. But now, it has turned into a great tool to help our own friends publicity wise, from artists to other designers, we support everyone we love and everyone that supports us.
And how do you differentiate yourselves from others?
We like to be upfront and honest. We don’t hold back. Vulgar sometimes, I guess you can say. I’m crazy into sneakers, so, I blog what I like as far as that. But, I also cater to the feminine side and show whatever bomb ass stilettos I find. We’re very diverse when it comes to our blog and I think that’s why so many different people relate to it, male or female.
Within the past year, what do you think have been the three biggest topics WW has blogged about?
Being that we are known for going hard on the male species with our personalities, blog, and clothing line…relationship topics tend to be pretty popular. Everyone goes through the same things one way or another so it makes it easier to deal with when you see someone else’s point of view on things, and we’re always up for discussion or debate. Another topic would be music. I think a lot of people come to our blog now for music, because we don’t post the typical signed artist released singles. We get a lot of exclusive tracks from unsigned artists who we’re friends with and are great at what they do. People are looking for something different in music these days and we like to put it out there. Lastly, I would say we’re pretty much known for our man bashing. Whether it’s song lyrics or just straight calling someone out, because yes, we have done that and will still do that if necessary. (Laughs)
You mentioned you were crazy into sneakers, when it comes to women, which ones should a girl always have?
Ones that reflect her personality. I’m a Jordan chick all day. I haven’t stopped wearing them since middle school and don’t intend to. Or, the sneakers that most boys wish they had, but are discontinued or deadstock…seeing some fire like that on a chick is impressive.
And music, what’s on your iPod’s “most played” playlist?
All the L.A. homies: Diz Gibran, Dom Kennedy, Skeme, Pacific Division, Tiron, Carter and the list goes on. JBillion reps for the Bay in my iPod. And as far as mainstream, Fabolous’s new album “Loso’s Way” is killin’!
Being a streetwear brand, what else do you like to showcase on the blog? I assume you have to approach it from a slightly different angle, since you have a brand behind it…
Yea, we keep everything relevant to the brand. It’s easy to do so because the brand is an expression of our personalities and lives already. We’re really personal and don’t mind letting people in. It’s a lifestyle, from music, to fashion, to poetry, to quotes or anything else that would relate to what we’re trying to do.
